Glöckl-Kinder (5th January)
In the morning of the 5th of January, children walk from house to house, carrying white bags made of linen as well as big bells.
At each front door they call "Bitt goa sche um an Gloecklkrapfn!",that means that they are asking for a "Gloecklkrapfn" which is a traditional sweet dish (can be compared to a doughnut). After they got the "Krapfn", sweets, fruit and nuts, the children wish everybody a happy New Year and continue their walk.

Perchten (5th January)
In the afternoon, lots of young people meet up at the Seeweg at Grundlsee, carrying big cowbells. They make a little procession that usually finishes with a hearty snack in one of the local farmhouses.
At 3 p.m. they ring their bells and wait for the "Berigln" (disguised figures, representing bad winter-demons) to come, so they can rub them down with snow.
In the evening the "Berigln" walk from house to house, where they get entertained with Schnapps and snacks.
At midnight every "Berigl" has to take his mask of and show his face.

Fasching (carnival)
Our Fasching has its origin in Celtic Customs. It's meant to chase bad demons away and get help and support from mysterious and hidden powers.
In Bad Aussee you can find the "Flinzerl", whose dresses are said to be the most magnificent Fasching-dresses in the entire Alps.
The Monday before lent the procession of the "Trommelweiber" takes place, which means that men dress up like women (in white nighties, under-skirts and beanies) and follow a flag-carrier and the carrier of a huge drum.
